Lompoc wind power project gains strength

The Lompoc Wind Farm Project, a $120 million wind farm expected to generate up to 120 megawatts of electricity, is getting close to the ground breaking stage. The farm, which will consist of between 60-80 turbines, will be located onTranquillion Ridge about seven miles south of Lompoc, California.

“Over 15,000MW” of wind power installed in 2006

The Washington based Worldwatch Institute is reporting that 15,200 megawatts of new wind power turbines were installed in 2006, which is the equivalent of 23 coal-fired power plants. The wind turbines also reduced CO2 output by about 43 million tons, which equals the emissions of about 8 million cars.
