Bush Pledges to Work With Democrats in 2007 to Cut Oil Imports

From Bloomberg Dec 20th – President Bush pledged to work with Democrats in 2007 to spend more to develop other sources of fuel. In the President’s State of the Union address in 2006, Bush asked Congress for a 22% increase in research spending for solar, wind, nuclear, ethanol, and hydrogen power. However, there was no major alternative energy legislation passed in 2006.

In the President’s latest speech, Bush again called on Congress to “step up our research and investment” in these areas. However, critics again are noting that there was no mention of “conservation”, which they feel also needs to be addressed.
