Provision to stop Cape Cod Wind Farm removed

The House and Senate have reached a compromise that removes a provision from the Coast Guard spending bill that would have allowed the Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney, veto power over the Cape Cod wind farm. That’s the 6 mile off the coastline project that Sen Ted Kennedy so vehemently opposed in a classic example of NIMBYism. Kennedy retreated after other Republicans and Democrats joined with the Bush Administration in objecting to the provision that would have effectively killed the project
The compromise gives the Coast Guard oversight, with the ability to order changes or even stop the project outright if its found to interfere with navigation. It’s seen as a positive for the project since Gov Romney was an outright opponent and would have vetoed the project as soon as he had the authority.
