Solar Powered Air Conditioners? But the real story is…

By MB-BigB | July 15, 2006

self cooling beer bottles. :) Actually, some researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are developing thin film solar cells and heat pumps that would accomplish the heating and cooling for a building. Couple them with some energy storage devices for rainy days, and you have a self contained solar powered airconditioner. This technology could potentially be applied to a car’s windshield and sunroof to provide AC and heating for cars, which would increase gas mileage.

Oh, and ” ‘It may also be possible to use the ABE system to create packaging materials for thermal control, which could lead to things like self-cooling soda bottles.’” Or, better yet, beer botttles.
