Solar Powered Air Conditioners? But the real story is…

self cooling beer bottles.
Actually, some researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are developing thin film solar cells and heat pumps that would accomplish the heating and cooling for a building. Couple them with some energy storage devices for rainy days, and you have a self contained solar powered airconditioner. This technology could potentially be applied to a car’s windshield and sunroof to provide AC and heating for cars, which would increase gas mileage.
Oh, and ” ‘It may also be possible to use the ABE system to create packaging materials for thermal control, which could lead to things like self-cooling soda bottles.’” Or, better yet, beer botttles.
