GM Launches a Lower-Cost Hybrid
By MB-BigB | January 27, 2007
King5.com in Arizona test drove the new GM Saturn Vue that uses a “light hybrid system.” The Vue is part of the new GM Greenline. While not as advanced and as fuel-efficient as full-blown hybrids, the light hybrid system has a price premium of just under $2,000, while other hybrids command a higher premium over their traditional models. According to GM, the light hybrid system will gain you about 20% in fuel-efficiency, and is better suited to highway driving than city driving, which is where the regular hybrids shine. In his real world test, the author averaged 26mpg, which is pretty good for an SUV.
