UK Wind Power reaches 2 Gigawatt milestone

BBC News is reporting that the UK has become only the seventh country in the world to have more than two gigawatts of operational wind power capacity.
The UK passed this “major milestone” when the 36 turbine Braes O’Doune wind farm started producing electricity on Friday. The Braes O’Doune wind farm generates 72 megawatts, enough to power 45,000 homes.
Trade and Industry Secretary Alistair Darling said, “”This is a major landmark. In the last 20 months we have doubled the amount of wind generated electricity we have.”
Currently, the UK gets 4.2% of its electricity from renewable sources, including wind, solar, hydro, and biomass. They are shooting for 10% by 2010, and 20% by 2020.
