Germany’s Solarwold AG is investing $397 million in a newly bought factory in Hillboro, Oregon that will double the company’s solar cell and wafer production by 2010. That would make the factory the largest solar cell and wafer factory in the US. The plant is expected to come online by the ned of this year and ramp up production between then and 2010. By 2009, Solarworld says, they should be producing enough solar cells and wafers to generate 500 megawatts of electricity per year.
