By MB-BigB | April 12, 2007

The Denver Business Journal reports that for the second year in a row, Xcel Energy Inc leads all American utilities in having the most wind generated power on their systems, according to recently released report by the American Wind Energy Association.

Xcel had 1,323 megawatts of wind power on its system at the end of 2006. The company plans to add about 4,000 megawatts of new wind power by 2020.

Number two on the list is Southern California Edison with 1,026 megawatts of wind power. Overall, the US wind power industry installed over 2,400 megawatts of new generating capacity in 2006, which represents an investment of about $4 billion. Total US wind power equals about 11,600 megawatts, enough to power about 3 million homes.
