USA Today: Hybrid vehicle technology goes commercial

USA Today has a pretty good article describing all the different ways automobile hybrid technology is being used. From hybrid buses to hybrid locomotives to hybrid tugboats to hybrid earth excavators, the pairing of rechargeable batteries and small gas or diesel engines is leading to significant fuel savings.

Xcel still largest wind producer in US

The Denver Business Journal reports that for the second year in a row, Xcel Energy Inc leads all American utilities in having the most wind generated power on their systems, according to recently released report by the American Wind Energy Association.
Xcel had 1,323 megawatts of wind power on its system at the end of 2006. [...]

ConocoPhillips backs carbon regulation

CNNMoney.com reports today that ConocoPhillips, a US based oil company, is calling for mandatory national regulation of greenhouse gas emissions. In doing so, ConocoPhillips is the first US based oil company to call for this legislation.

Researchers at Massey University’s Nanomaterials Research Centre in New Zealand have come up with dye-sensitised solar cells that generate electricity from sunlight at 1/10th the cost of current silicon based photovoltaic cells.
