Wind power growth gusts strongly in USA in 2007

USA Today is reporting that US wind power grew 45% in 2007, which was the largest rise since the 1980’s. The study, released by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), cites federal tax credit, new state renewable energy mandates and global warming concerns as the reasons.
An additional 5,244 megawatts were installed in 2007. Those additional megawatts represent 30% of all new electricity capacity in the country for 2007, says AWEA, and is enough to power 1.5 million homes.
While the AWEA is looking for continued growth in 2008, they think growth will be lessened somewhat because wind turbine manufacturers are having trouble meeting worldwide demand.
