MSNBC has an interesting article today where they talk about changing attitudes on the part of several utility company CEOs. Companies such as Duke Energy, American Electric Power (AEP), and NRG Energy are setting voluntary greenhouse gas reduction goals as a way towards reducing global warming and gaining a competitive edge. These CEOs are realizing that there eventually will be mandatory limits on carbon dioxide emissions, and they’re thinking about ways to accomplish it. As David Crane from NRG Systems says, the industry’s attitude of “see no carbon, hear no carbon, speak no carbon” is increasingly out of touch with mainstream American values, and that “companies and industries which deny the issue will be marginalized.”
