Ford looking for more efficient plug-in hybrid charging process

Ford Motors just announced that they are developing a new control system for use in its upcoming (2012) plug-in hybrid electric cars.    The new system will allow the car to communicate with the electric grid and let the owner of the car set and adjust the timing of its charging schedule.   For example, you would be able to plug your car into your house charger when you come home from work, but tell the charger to only charge the car during off peak hours or when the grid is using renewable energy.   Also, Ford is planning to use this technology at places outside the home – in other words, using a credit card, you would be able to charge your car at the mall or your office – once your car is identified to the grid with your credit car, your car will be charged according to your settings.
