It’s being reported in the LA Times that General Motors will unveil a prototype plug-in hybrid at the International Auto Show being held in Detroit in early 2007. According to news reports, this GM plugin hybrid will use a different concept for its drive train than other plugins. The car would be recharged daily by its owners, which would be enough for 20-30 miles of use before using up the battery. Then the gasoline motor would start to kick in, but instead of using the gas engine to turn the wheels, the engine would provide the electricity needed to keep the car moving and recharge the batteries. No word yet on expected mileage for long distance driving.
