Plug-in Hybrid development

There’s been several articles recently about advances in plug-in hybrids, including some possible aftermarket kits from a company called EDrive Systems that will convert a prius to a plug-in.

All this sounds great, including the possibility for 120 mpg hybrids that would drive an average 60 mile round trip commute on half a gallon of gas. But I’m also reading about rolling blackouts and other power problems in SoCal that were brought on by the recent heatwave, and power outages in New York and St. Louis. So if plug-in hybrids become a reality, there’s going to need to be a substantial upgrading of the power grid.
