Toyota planning a new smaller and cheaper hybrid

Word is that Toyota is planning on coming out with a new hybrid model that will be smaller and cheaper than the Prius.    According to the DetroitNews.com, Toyota will be showing off a concept version of the new hybrid at the Jan 11th North American International Auto Show.   There’s no details (and no pictures), other than that the hybrid will be a subcompact and is scheduled to go into production in Japan in late 2011 and hit the US in early 2012.    By sharing drive train components with the current Prius, Toyota hopes to increase profitability and decrease costs by sharing components across multiple hybrid models.
