Florida approves net metering at market rates
By MB-BigB | September 5, 2008
The Florida Public Service Commision has just taken the final step in allowing customers who produce renewable energy to get credit for sending excess electricity back to the power company. This practice, called net metering, is expected to lead to the growth of solar panel installations at Florida homes and businesses. While Florida used to allow customers to sell excess electricity back to the grid, they previously only got back 3 or 4 cents per kilowatt hour – the new rule states that customers will get credit at the same rate that they’re currently paying for electricity.
