The Constellation Energy Group will be building the largest solar rooftop project in the US on top of a Flanders, New Jersey based Toys “R” Us distribution facility. The thin film solar panels (about 37,000 of them when finished) will generate 5.38 megawatts of electricity, which is enough juice to meet about 72% of the facility’s power needs. The panels are coming from United Solar, a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices.
Toys “R” Us will purchase the power through a 20 year contract with the Constellation Energy Group, which means no upfront costs for Toys R Us. The rooftop solar array will cover 20 acres of the 32 acres of rooftop and is expected to be finished this summer.
