World’s largest solar power tower now operating in Spain

A new concentrating solar power (CSP) tower, built by Abengoa Solar in Spain, has started up operations. The PS20 is made up of a solar field consisting of 1255 mirrored heliostats with a surface area of 1291 square feet each. These mirrors reflect the sun onto the receiver, which is sitting at the top of a 531 foot high tower.  The energy beamed from the mirrors onto the reciever produces steam which is then used to turn a turbine – the overall power capacity is 20 megawatts, or enough power to supply 10,000 homes.  The solar tower, named the PS20, has already exceeded its designed output after the first three days of its production testing period.  According to Santiago Seage, CEO of Abengoa Solar, “Generating more power during production testing than the design output is indeed a significant milestone.”

  1. Solar Energy is one of the best sources of clean and green electricity. I think that we should build more efficient solar thermal power plants and solar cells. frequently. “

  2. Glad to read someone also thinks -solar energy-. Is the best way to go CLEAN and GREEN. More please.

  3. I am interested in building solar thermal power in Tzaneen Limpopo Province, South Africa.
I request you estimates budget and how I must get the materials for the projects.
