Despite objections from Santa Clarita Valley residents, the California public utility commission has approved construction of an electricity transmission line to bring wind power electricty to northern Los Angeles County.
The Tehachapi project, which I posted about in December, consists of a 50 square mile wind farm being planned for Tehachapi, California by a subsidiary of Australia;s Alico Financial Group and wind farm developer Oak Creek Energy Systems. It’s the largest project being planned for the US right now. The need to build new transmission lines was considered a possible roadblock to the building of the project. Total capacity of the farm is expected to be about 2,500 megawatts, with the first turbines going operational in 2010.
