Get your own personal wind turbine at Home Depot

Home Depot has started selling home wind turbines at its stores in Idaho, Nevada, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, and California.   They teamed up with Southwest Windpower to sell the Skystream 3.7, a turbine that the company calls “the first compact, all-inclusive personal wind generator (with controls and inverter built in) designed to work in very low winds.”   You also get software that allows you to monitor the performance of your Skystream from you PC.

With installation costs, you’re looking at a before tax credits cost of about $6,000, but qualified homeowners are eligible for a slew of local, state, and federal tax incentives, including a 30% federal tax credit.     Eventually Home Depot and Southwest Windpower plan on selling the Skystream 3.7 in more stores across the U.S. – stores in “windy locations across the United States.”
