New Texas Gulf Coast wind farm in place

Iberdrola Renewables has announced that they have completed their development of their new 202 megawatt Peñascal wind farm near the Texas Gulf Coast.    They also announced that they have a 15 year contract in place with CPS Energy to provide 76.8 megawatts of electricity  from the wind farm to CPS Energy customers.    This is enough to power 17,500 homes in the San Antonio area.

The wind farm consists of 84 Mitsubishi turbines – Iberdrola Renewables says that one benefit of the location at the Texas  Gulf Coast is that the coastal winds tend to blow even during the hottest part of the days, which is when customers need electricity the most.
