Spain breaks wind power record

By MB-BigB | March 25, 2008

Sometime last weekend, wind power in Spain accounted for just over 40% of all electricity consumed in that country. Saturday night was very windy, and Spain’s wind parks generated 9,852 megawatts of electricity which equaled 40.8 percent of total consumption. While it was a low demand period due to the Easter holiday, for the entire weekend wind power accounted for 28% of all electricity consumed.

Spain is looking to boost its wind power capacity even higher. They recently approved legislation that will allow offshore wind parks to be built. They’re looking to triple the amount of renewable energy produced by 2020.
